The trilogy begins with Gary Hustwits directorial debut documentary, Helvetica. Helvetica explores the worlds of typography and graphic design through the eyes of one loved/hated ubiquitous little font. As a filmmaker, Gary Hustwit likes the idea of taking a closer look at the things we take for granted and changing the way people think about them, whether its type or objects or whatever.
The film series is being co-sponsored by KU campus partners: University Honors Program, KU Memorial Unions, School of the Arts, Dept. of Design, Dept. of Geography and Dept. of Film and Media Studies. Additional support for the series is from two design professional organizations, the Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association and AIGA Kansas City.
